Week 1

The Lighthouse: Like a lighthouse with 360 degree views of the landscape, a great leader sees the big picture from all angles. Shining a bright light for everyone needing a clear path to success!

What Makes A Great Leader?

Chances are you’ve seen a great leader at some point in your life. Maybe you’ve seen a hero in a movie that demonstrated great courage and stepped up when no one else would. Or read about a leader in a book that stood out from everyone and took a bold stand for what’s right. Perhaps there’s a leader in history like Martin Luther King Jr. that believed in a noble cause and changed the world for the better. Maybe it’s your favorite athlete that led their team to victory when it seemed almost impossible. There may even be a real life leader in your life like your parents, teacher, or a coach that inspired you to be better. But what exactly makes a great leader and how can you become a leader too?

Leadership Is In Us ALL

Truth is, anyone has the ability to be a leader, you just need to look within and embrace the best parts of yourself! Leadership means being there for the people around you and encouraging everyone you meet to put their best foot forward. Leadership means doing the right thing, even if it’s easier to cheat or look the other way. Leadership also means taking a stand against what’s wrong by telling an adult when you notice danger or anything else that makes you uncomfortable. A great leader leads by example, which really just means that by doing the right thing at all times, others will be motivated by your actions and also want to do what‘s right. That’s how you inspire people and make the world better. Below are some exercises that unlock the leader within YOU!

Qualities Of A Great Leader

Pride: To inspire others, you need to be 100% proud and confident in your actions. This comes in believing in yourself and knowing without a doubt that you’re doing the right thing.

Courage: There will be times in life where you may feel nervous or even scared but what you do with those feelings is what really matters. A great leader feels fear but never lets it get in the way of what’s right.

Empathy: The most important job a leader does is putting others first. Always look for ways to help out and listen to what other people are feeling.

Effort: A leader always goes the extra mile which pretty much just means they go above and beyond doing way more than what’s asked of them.

Vision: Never be afraid to think big and chase your dreams. Nothing is impossible if you have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish.

Commitment: A great leader always finishes everything they decide to start and doesn’t give up when things get hard. See things through until the end and then you can celebrate your achievements.

Improvement: Leaders aren’t perfect! Even the greatest people make mistakes. But a leader always learns new lessons and improves each and every day.

Honesty: Leaders never lie! Telling the truth is always the right thing to do, even if it‘s easier to hide behind a lie.

Week 1 Objectives

  • Exercise #1 Leadership at HOME: The safest and easiest place to practice leadership is at home with your family. A great way to start is by being a good role model to your siblings and encouraging them to also do the right thing. Leadership at home also involves taking the initiative with chores, taking good care of any pets/plants, comforting your family if someone is sad, and always being honest and open when talking to your parents.

  • Question 1: . List a few leaders that you admire (real people and movie characters).
